Hey all you Rockman owners. I had David (Perfectsound500) refurb my sustainor and it sounds 2x better no joke. I didn't even think anything was wrong with it before. So if you have a rockmodule that's been sitting around since the 80's, it probably needs to be checked out. He's a professional so don't worry. Sure did a good job on mine. ~Steve

...uh...Bob Cedro was the Design Engineer for SR&D and went to Dunlop after SR&D shut down and Dunlop took over the Rockman line.  But David is a good tech, and you'll get a more thorough job from him than Dunlop. Dunlop doesn't go the extra mile and reflow all of the critical solder joints as David does, which are the #1 problem with malfunctioning modules. Dunlop fixes the stated problem, but doesn't do the preventive maintenance required. Plus, you'll get it back before the next election with David!

I just received a Stereo Echo from David today, and it's a beautiful thing!!! Thank you David, and please, people, if you don't already know what David can do, you have to experience it! I couldn't be happier dealing with David; actually, I have another deal in the works!

David does a great job, I just had two items refurbished. My number 3 sustainor now sounds excellent for the condition that it is in. Keep on rocking!

I just received a model 200 Sustainor that David refurbished, and let me tell you, it was very surprising. David's work had already impressed me when I received a Stereo Echo from him, and the sliders were ever so smooth - really puts the rest of my modules to shame. Anyway, let me tell you about this Sustainor: This Sustainor is rediculously quiet!!!

Let me say that again, "This Sustainor is rediculously quiet!!!"

Thank you David!

I connected the refurbished Sustainor 200 and refurbished EQ to the rest of my Rockman rig today. Wow! I have been playing with Rockman modules since 1991 but today I experienced the best Rockman sound ever. The quality of the sound, smoothness of the distortion/compression and overall tone from the David Accomando's refurbs are incredible. I am super pleased with Perfect Sound's modules. Kudos to David.

Well, at the risk of sounding repetitive on this board, I just wanted to give David props on refurbing my rockmodules. I was unsure at first because my beloved Chorus and EQ are the heart of my 5150 rig (not to mention when I use them with my other Rockman gear!) and to my novice ears they sounded fine. However, after reading all the positive comments, I figured a little dusting and cleaning couldn't hurt! Man, I was unaware of how noisy these things had become! Obviously with a Chorus and an EQ, they don't sound dramatically DIFFERENT, but they do sound much quieter and all the sliders and switches are so clean and quiet now! Kudos to you David. Folks, he does fine work and I highly recommend if you need refurbing (and, like me, even if you think you don't) send those modules to David! He won't steer you wrong!

And he is a swell guy to boot! Thanks again!

This posting is to acknowledge the great efforts of David Accomando and his company PerfectSound500. While browsing through this site looking for a number of Rockman modules, I came across David. He offered advice, assistance and was very generous with his time in updating my knowledge of these cool products. I used to own only one in 1985, and am now rebuilding my guitar sound. At the end of the day, I had purchased 9 units overall from many worldwide sources and with David's help and excellent refurbishment services, now own a very impressive, versatile system. If anyone wishes to contact me relative to David's work ethic, knowedge or services, feel free to email me. Imagine 9 analog pre-amp units in line to my pair of Mesa Boogie MK III's with almost no signal noise interfering with lush choruses, delays and classic Boston distortion. To David - many thanks and to all the rest - check him out - you will thank yourself for doing so!!! Rob

The one on the left is the Rockman rockmodule gearhead Shawn's Rockman rockmodule rack consisting of two Rockman Sustainor 200's, 4 Rockman Equalizers, a Rockman Stereo Chorus, a Rockman Stereo Echo and a Rockman Midi Octopus David's webmaster, Rick (Mr. Grafix), drew up Shawn's connecting layout for all his Rockman rockmodules.
I sent David (Perfectsound500) one of my Rockman Sustainor model 200's to be refurbished. Even though it seemed to work and sounded fine for me, I figured I'd have him do his thing. I mailed it to him on Wednesday and I had it back Monday morning all refurbished. Now that's what I call service! Last night I hooked it up and OH MY GOD! What a difference his work made! He cleaned it, resoldered the joints, replaced a few things and tested it before sending it back. The sound is so much better, so clear and no unwanted noise at all. Before I sent it to David the Auto Clean switch did not make any difference. Now, it works great! Thanks David for bringing my Sustainor back to life.

I cannot say enough for the work he does. I more than highly recommend him to refurbish your modules. Even if you think they work fine but they have never been refurbished, send them to David and you will see a wonderful difference.

Kudos to Perfectsound500!

I second the Kudos!!! I am in the midst of purchasing Rockman modules no. 10 and 11 and have every intention of having the sellers ship them directly to David for cleaning and refurbing. For Rockman Ebay purchases, I can now get around the "Will ship to US only" limitation. I live in Canada.

I suspect the 'customer' David is referring to in this well written article is me! David configured 9 modules into an absolutely wonderful sounding rack (a 10th and 11th soon to be added, BTW) with the Sustainor 100 in the clean mode.

All were refurbished and are now in tip top condition - well worth the money. I do not regret at all using the 100 in this manner. Sonically it responds exceptionally well in my rig to a wide array of guitars - (I use 14). Again to David's credit - I called him from Toronto, Ontario last night and he spent a good deal of time reviewing my settings, making suggestions for improvement. Can you believe he knows every desired, recommended setting of every slider, switch and button on every unit - from memory? I continue to be totally impressed with his knowledge and generosity. If you need a unit cleaned and conditioned and before didn't know where to go, you do now!

This is a close up of Shawn's two Rockman Sustainor 200's and Rockman Equalizer. Notice the pre amp gain knob instead of the slider on the bottom Rockman Sustainor 200 that David installed... it allows for more precise control
David, I finally had a chance to test drive my sustainor you so graciously agreed to look at as well as shorten the power cord. It took me so long because I was replacing all my cables and plugs with Mogami and Neutrik. Another tip I learned from you. Once again, I have to commend you on a job very well done. I really like the addition of the knob in place of the Preamp Gain slider, it works excellent. It looks pretty damn cool as well.

Thanks David,
Shawn

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been officially adopted into the ROCKMAN family. I just had my Model 200 Double IC Sustainor refurbed by Dave Accomando, of PerfectSound Rock Refurbs, and it not only sounds better than any Sustainor I've played, except for Mr. Accomando's stacks of course, but he took the time to explain exactly what he did. This man is truly the ROCKMAN King! He is also an incredibly nice guy, not only did he do a great job on my Sustainor, he also gave me great advice on how to set up a great rack system of my own and showed me the best tweaks for each module. Check out his website! I also got the opportunity to play through those coveted ROCKMAN Stacks, which was awesome! Once again fellow Rockman users if you need your module to sound the way it was suppose to, even if you think it sounds good, Dave can make it sound better! Honestly! I can't wait until I can get the rest of my rack together!

Thanks again Dave!

Tone Monster – Rockman Distortion Generator with Loop and Rockman EQ – Review

Ease of Use: Easy As Can Be Even without a manual, it’s easy to use and anyone can call up both excellent distortion and clean sounds by varying the sliders. All sliders are self explanatory.

Sound Quality: Most Excellent The Distortion Generator definitely does have a very wide range of tone – from raw to silky smooth. A real cutting edge can be had, particularly with using the Treble Boost and Distortion Harmonics sliders. You are only limited by your imagination as to the range of sounds you can achieve. There is absolutely no unwanted noise coming out of these units – quiet as can be (this is achieved of course by “PerfectSoundRockRefurbs” work – re-shielding and some other magic by David Accomando) I play through these units with a variety of guitars, both single coil and humbucking pickup configurations (I play a Les Paul Pro, Strat Ultra and Gibsons ES-335, 330, and 175, to name a few). Even with a few dimmers in the basement – no white noise or other disturbances are evident. Power chords come through strong and vibrant, with every harmonic ringing – particularly with the Distortion Harmonic slider set to “Heavy”. If I have to compare, I think of Brian May power chords, Carlos Santana smooth singing solos, Van Halen crunch and it’s strange - Tom Scholz seems to be in the room playing whenever I am. A great trick for clean sounds is to lower the Sustain and Distortion Harmonics to their lowest levels, activate the Auto Clean and Phase Notcher buttons, roll down your guitar’s volume to about half and there it is – clean as can be, even at very high volumes.

Reliability: Tough as Nails They approximate 20+ years old and still as durable as the day they were built - 10 out of 10 on this one. – They are of course Rockman – ‘nuff said! I also own 11 other units, and they perform equally as well.

Overall Rating: Top Notch I play Jazz a la Larry Carlton and classic Rock and Blues and am primarily a rhythm player. I solo with jazz influence and have been playing well over 25 years - this addition to my rig fits the bill. Believe it or not, this unit suits all styles of play. Order one from David – it won’t disappoint. As all Rockman products are becoming highly collectable, if you come across one, grab it!

David,

I received my refurbished unit back today, a Model 200 single IC Sustainor, all I can say is yessssssssss :-), this is what this unit should have really sounded like. Thank you for the wonderful job you did. I was a little worried when the face plate got bent, that it might have done something to the board and ruined the input jack connection. Also the sound volume does not fade up and down like the unit was doing, now the volume stays constant, like it should.

I thank you for all you did on this unit, fixing the bent face plate, and even cleaning her up. I can almost hear that wonderful Boston sound hinted at in this unit. Though playing around with settings I can almost reach that wonderful Black Sabbath fuzz of that long gone past, Sweet Leaf and Children of the Grave, oh yeah baby, Thank you. I will keep you in my good book, as I have some more refurbishments planned very soon.

Everything on this unit is just so much brighter and better sounding. Thank you for your work. I am a happy camper, now that I know this unit is in fine working order. By the way for those that do not know this unit was modified to the Double IC. Also for a bit of history this unit was in the manufacturing time when model 19191 was pulled and modified by SR&D to a Double IC known as REV 20, this unit I had acquired is serial number 19192 a little spooky ehh. So here is one more floating around this green planet now.

David,

The Sustainor sounds amazing, I just can't tell you how you have changed my life forever. I never knew that you could modify a Sustainor model 100 to sound that good. It is well worth the money to upgrade an older sustainor with this Tone Monster modification. If I had enough money I'd give David $10,000 for his services and a cup of tea. He's that great, if you have any other questions just feel free to ask me.

Talk to you soon,
Clint

My Sustainor 100 was totally boogernosed when I sent it to David. He repaired it and refurbed it and let me tell you, the guy has got it going on! The difference is very noticeable on the clean setting, at least for me anyway. I play a 62 reissue custom shop strat through either a marshall JMP MKII 50 watt lead series head into a 1960A 4x12, or when the room is small or my back is telling me to, a fender hot rod deluxe. I didn't think it got any better. Boy was I wrong. This Sustainor will bring life to any rig you put it in front of. Send it to PSRR and David will work his magic and take your sound to a whole other dimention! I can't say enough good things about his work. Send him your rockmodule and find out for yourself.

Sincerely,
Mel Deneen

Hi David,

The replacement Rocktray arrived yesterday, this time in PERFECT condition. The Rocktray I originally ordered arrived damaged and you simply shipped me a new one, no questions asked, and without charging me anything more. I am very impressed with your attention to customer detail. You're a model for all other Internet shops.

You have performed the BEST customer service I ever experienced through all the Internet transactions I've done through the years - and, believe me, they've been quite a few - and you can quote me on this at will.

I even had another problem once - missing product, USPS fault - that took me about six months to get resolved. I will recommend you to every friend of mine that needs any type of product you sell, without any gripe.

Thank you very much and I hope we do business again sometime.

Best Regards,
Vasco

Chris Ford's Rockman rack and his Marshall stack
Hi - I'd just like to say, when I first heard of PerfectSoundRockRefurbs (.com), was a bit skeptical. I mean, when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Well, not this time! I've been after the Boston sound for decades and tried for ages to get hold of the Rockman modules, always to no avail. You see, I live overseas and nowhere near the continental US.

After talking with David (Perfectsound500), he put me at ease and even managed to hook me up with an item I was looking for. The module was the Rockman Sustainor which he'd refurbished - it's what Perfectsound500 does! After all, these modules have been around a while.

It arrived at my door recently and when I plugged it in and got set up, I couldn't believe my ears. It sounds so sweet! As far as I'm concerned, it beats the heck out of the stuff on the market today. David really cleaned the unit up to superb high standards. I currently have a Rockman EQ on the way to him for a refurb and my Rockman Chorus will also soon be on my way for a refurb.

The bottom line: If you're living overseas and feeling skeptical about dealing with a company on the "other side of the pond", David and Perfectsound500 can be trusted fully. Heck, he even puts out regular articles about how to use the equipment for maximum effect and also notifies all the members of the "Rockman Community" by email when there's a deal going down or even if a member is looking out for a particular module. How many other companies provide that amount of care and after sales service?

Hi David,

Thanks for all the Rockman info. It's a big help. The EQ you refurbished and the rocktrays you sent arrived yesterday. They are Fantastic! The EQ is just the final touch I needed. It boosts the high end of my guitar (a simple Ibanez RG470) without muddying up the low end.

Staying on the lookout for more Rockman stuff...man this gear rocks BIG TIME...I luv it! Oh yes and the voltage adaptor you included in my earlier shipment - I'm running my system off it. Thanks again, it's a godsend.

Doc Watson's Rockman rack and his 1998 Fender Strat '57 reissue Close up of those 9 beautiful little blue Rockman wonders! The whole Rockman plus setup
I have had 9 Rockmoduales refurbished by Perfect Sound 500 (aka David Accomando). I have never dealt with a more trustworthy and knowledgeable technician in my 30 years in the music business. The incredible care he puts into every job is unbelievable. I could write a paragraph on every module I have received so far.

The first experience I had with him was when purchasing a stereo chorus, he answered all my questions and more. Ever since, every time I send a rockmodule in for repair/reconditioning it's back to me within 7 days! WOW! David has gone above and beyond the call of duty taking care of my Sustainor 100, Rebuilding my 200 into a TONE MONSTER Double IC lead leveler. My two equalizers are so clean they make me want to ROCK, not to mention how my stereo chorus/delay sounds so much sweeter and is noise free.

There is no where like home and there is no where like PerfectSound500. If anybody is looking for a out of body experience with their Rockman set ups, Please let "David A." show you the way.

Have YOU GOT perfect sound? I do.......

ROCK ON!

I first want to say that David is awesome and out did himself again. I recently sent David one of my Model 200 Sustainors to have him mod it with the Double IC chip. I’ve sent him this particular Sustainor before to have him refurbish it and have him shorten the cord. He also removed the Pre amp Gain slider and added a knob where the guitar input was for the Pre Amp gain. This works incredibly well and looks pretty cool. I’m the owner of the Sustainor with the knob that’s in picture above. Well I have to say that the Double IC mod is absolutely incredible and I highly recommend it. Endless sustain and the compression is much better. I can now trill what seems forever! David said the difference would be subtle but I do notice the difference, a much better and improved Sustainor.

David, I am so glad you offer your services to us Rockman owners, you truly are incredible and give an invaluable service that is so much appreciated.

PerfectSound Roctrays!!

I just purchased one!

The Rockmodules fit in them perfectly...

I was using a universal tray for two of the eight Rockmodules I have (the other six have been snuggled in original Rockman Rocktrays), but quickly got tired of the mismatched look in the front(a universal tray will make the 'modules set back almost a half inch from the front of the original Rockman Rocktrays in your rack set-up, or any other rackmounts you may have). The universals are made deep in order to accompany more, but matched up to an original - It sticks out too far in the back. Wasted area... It's an eye-sore... Plus, it has sharp edges!

PerfectSound Rocktrays solved that problem quickly! If I didn't know, I would swear it was an original!

Thanks perfectsound500!

Digitech MEQ-14 Tone Monster Mod!

I had David recently convert my Digitech MEQ-14 midi stereographic equalizers to the MEQ TONE MONSTER mod specs. This turned out to be a GREAT mod for anyone seeking the sought after PGE2 specs of the holy grail of Rockman EQ-dom.

He not only did a professional job on the mod. He was also very personable to deal with. Really the best one-two punch of service you could ask for. Also his turn around time was fantastic. I highly recommend his services to anyone who seeks the “perfect sound” of their Rockman dreams. His skill is only matched by his enthusiasm for his work and fervor to all things Rockman. And as a consumer and Rockman enthusiast myself, I wouldn’t want it any other way…

The Tone Monster works great and its really essential to anyone wanting total control of their Sustainor module. Simple to use and unlimited in it's possibilities.

I know I will be sending him all my modules in the near future for refurb, if I could just power them off long enough to put them in the mail. This Tone Monster Digitech MEQ-14 mod makes my setup really shine.

Thanks David!

Rick's XP100 and custom cabinets by RackmountConcepts.com
Hi all you Rockman gearheads out there,

Some of you know that I webmaster this web site for David Accomando and have been friends with him for almost 2 years now, and many of you know that he is an invaluable Rockman resource to many of us Rockman gearheads, but with that said I wanted to assure you that my complements herein are not empty gestures of hype, but rather honest factual and fair evaluations of my refurb transactions with David and his meticulous craftsmanship.

I just wanted to let y’all know that I now have the privilege of rockin’ out with my own PSRR Tone Monster Rockman XP100! Austina, as I call her, was purchased from Jon Merz in Austin, Texas. It seems that Jon has been swayed by the dark (digital) side and now it’s sad to say, he plays his Pod thru a Bose PAS system. Boo, hiss, tisk-tisk… Just kidding Jon. Your loss is my gain. I actually would like to play Austina thru a pair of those Bose PAS systems someday just to hear how well they might do as stereo full range speakers, but at $1600.00 a pop, it’s gonna be a long wait for that someday.

David did an incredible job on Austina and her extra 4 Rockman modules. The two step process started by going thru my XP100 with a fine tooth comb, basically disassembling her completely, cleaning and testing all systems, and then reassembling her with some improvements, like a very smooth and now secure handle/latch mechanism. Also since the right speaker is in the same cabinet as the amp, power supply and the XPR PCB’s, things can get a bit rattled around from that mighty lil’ 6 inch Pyle speaker that’s less than 2 inches away from these critical PCB’s. So some TLC and solder was added to a few questionable components to secure them for the next 16 years of rock and roll… ;)

David then went thru and refurbed my 4 modules (Smart Gate, 12 band EQ, Stereo Echo and Midi Octopus) that will enhance the inherent weaknesses of the XP100 and XPR units. I must admit, I was skeptical about how much better my Stereo Echo and EQ modules could sound, but now I am a believer in how much a difference a refurb makes on these units, not to mention my Smart Gate was non-functional to start with too.

Basically the difference to my ears was like I was playing with some cheapie $8.00 tiny headphones that had some wax build up in those tiny lil’ holes on the ear pieces (you know what I mean) and then it was like I got a pair of headphones like the Sony over-the-ear $150.00 kinds… it’s like all of a sudden now I could hear, really hear those missing Stereo Echo and EQ-ed musical components. Sort of like a night and day thing. Wow, I am impressed! I’m saving up my $$ now to get my other 8 modules refurbed for when I build my rack. I can’t wait… ;)

One last thing… after David meticulously mounted the 4 modules plus remote loop (for the Smart Gate) and wired them up and included a power strip, David threw in 10 of his favorite presets on my lil’ Austina. All I had to do when I got her was to take her out of the shipping box, plug the power strip in, turn on one power switch and WHA-LAH… I was rockin’ to some of my favorite spot-on Boston and EVH sounds all controlled by one midi foot pedal and all in one very compact unit! Thanks SR&D for building such an awesome lil’ unit! And A BIG THANKS to David for helping me obtain that elusive PerfectSound!

Happy? YES!
Recommend? ABSOLUTELY!
Worth it? DUH, EVERY PENNY!

Dear PSRR,

I am writing to express my gratitude to Mr. David Accomando and everyone involved with PerfectSound Rock Refurbs. I have dealt with many companies and every once in a great while, one rises above the rest and PerfectSound has achieved that distinction. They not only helped me, acquire a missing piece for my Soloist, but they did it in a fast and professional manner that is lacking in most companies today. I was alerted via email that the piece was found and again when it was shipped. I am very pleased with their service and wanted to express my gratitude. I would highly recommend this fine outfit to anyone seeking to repair or update their musical equipment.

Finally, a gem amongst a pile of rocks!

Sincerely yours,

Barney Stars portable Rockman module setup
Hello Dave,

Here are some pictures of my "more portable" rig being used at the Palace Of Auburn Hills at a Detroit Pistons game, then again at the Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit. Apparently, we are not the only people who thought that it sounds great. 22,000 other people felt the same way as we twice ROCKED the Palace.

Thanks again for the added flavor, power and sustain from the Rockman modules. I'm sure you will be hearing from me again.

Hello!

David Ferringer here. I have been a Rockman owner for 13 years. I recently discovered PSRR while searching the net. After I read the entire site, I was psyched to look around the house for my scattered modules and re-assemble a system based on Mr. Accomando's recommendations. I will admit, I was confused why a Distortion Module was NOT the heart of the system and why would an EQ go BEFORE a distortion stage? Well, In no time I found my old Sustainor 200 on a shelf, (under few oily model airplane engines.) I blew off the dust and quickly linked together all my modules and wailed away.

After hours of tweaking and sore fingers, I was starting to hear tones that I always hoped was there, but could never bring out. Not only was I hearing familiar Boston flavored tones I was also getting some great new tones that compliment my original music. BUT!...I was not 100% satisfied. Although I preferred the Sustainor's distortion, it seemed muddy especially on fast notes. This is where I finally understood something else Mr. Accomando mentioned. The Lead Leveler Double IC Mod. Ah-HA! My Sustainor does not HAVE the Double IC. So, I sent my now prized Sustainor to PSRR for the Double IC modification. In a short time I had my lil blue baby back in my hands. Instantly, I could tell that fast notes no longer blur together. That mod was the perfect touch to my system. It is a subtle touch, but if you know your system, you WILL hear the difference.

I am not going to try to describe my tone but, I have to say, I love how 7th chords ring soooo sweet, smooth and clear. I suggest to anyone who can appreciate the Rockman tone to read the wealth of info in this site and to have your Sustainor upgraded and or Refurbed. And while you are at it, get yourself a Rock'n'Closure for ALL of your Rockman Modules...they deserve it!

I'd like to really thank David and Rickster for the valued information posted on this web site. I have had an XPR unit since 1990. I've always liked it, but it always was noisy. I had no idea what to do with it to quiet it down. After contacting the folks at PSRR, they steered me to Article 25. It took a while to purchase the various components suggested, but now that I have them, I realize what the XPR unit can actually do. I've added an additional EQ and stereo chorus to what was actually suggested. I have one EQ set for clean XPR settings and one for distortion. What a difference the right equipment really makes. I'll be having David refurb my units one by one. I can't wait.
